body language and gestures

The body language differs between various communities where they share same gestures and differ in another and here we collected some gestures that some of us think it is acceptable to everyone but in Vietnam they have different concept of gestures.

Thumb down, other fingers closed.

Thumb upright, other fingers closed.

Forefinger and top of thumb meet to form circle, other fingers upright. Which means “Zero.” Poor quality.

Middle finger pointing, other fingers closed.

Palm of right hand out fingers

"Come here." Not used to people senior in age or status.

Middle finger crossing over forefing

Obscene gesture.

Winking.

Not decent, especially when directed at people of the opposite sex.

Avoiding eye contact.

Showing respect to people senior in age or status or of the opposite sex.

Touching child’s head

Not appreciated, but not offensive.
